After taking top Canadian players Wallbant and iBall, Meme is the first inaugural CTWC Toronto champion defeating Gwafey in the finals. She also made the finals of last years CTWC World Championship tournament. Could 2026 be the year we see Meme become the new World Champion? We will find out in a few months! Congratulations Meme!
It's official... The first ever CTWC Toronto regional event is over and being there in person myself as part of the team was an amazing experience. I was so grateful to finally get a chance to meet so many of the wonderful people part of this community and happy to say it was a massive success. Big shoutout to everyone who came out and especially to Wallbant for leading the charge and organizing this from the start. I am definitely looking forward already to next year and seriously contemplating making the trip to SoCal Gaming Expo in June for the CTWC World Championship, a personal bucket list goal of mine for many years now.
Just before CTWC Toronto, our good friend aGameScout dropped another banger of a video all about CTWC Montreal in 2024 which focuses on many top Canadian players. The Tetris prodigy that is Blue Scuti has done it again. Not only did he finally reach the infamous Rebirth screen, but he also destroyed the previous score world record held by Dog by over 10 million points! An absolutely insane achievement! His final score when it was all said and done? 40.2 million!

In a thrilling set against former Jonas Cup Champion Fractal in this years final, PixelAndy would go on to win in an exciting decider. A well deserved victory for prehaps the best DAS player alive today. The late and former 7 time world champion Jonas Neubauer would be very proud of the wonderful Tetris community we have today. AlexT is once again your new Classic Tetris World Champion after sweeping Meme in the finals. Alex came into this years CTWC as the defending world champion. He finished 1st seed by setting a new qualifying world record with 16 maxes and having the highest kicker score. He would then go on to win the tournament without being defeated once, sweeping other top challengers such as Hepps, Dengler, SV and Scuti in the process and securing his place as the best classic NES Tetris player in the world today. Congratulations Alex. What an incredible accomplishment!

It finally happened! Dog playing Tetris as he is known as in the classic NES Tetris community has become the first person ever to reach the end of Tetris! Many top players have been grinding at for this accomplishment for several months now, but in the end, the former 2 time world champion finally achieved it. Not only that, but he shattered the previous lines world record with over 3000 lines cleared and nearly DOUBLED the previous score world record set by the current world champion Alex Thach with a score of 29.4 million! In an exciting finals, Fractal defeated Blue Scuti to become the first ever Jonas Neubauer Cup Champion! With the CTWC moving to SoCal Gaming Expo, this DAS only tournament took place at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in honor of not only the tournaments roots, but also to honor the life and legacy of the 7 time world champion.
AlexT is your new Classic Tetris World Champion after beating former 2 time world champion Dog in the finals in a thrilling game 5 decider! This was, without a doubt, one of the best CTWC competitions to ever be played, with the largest crowd and prize pool to date. Congratulations AlexT!
In something absolutely no one could have seen coming, Logan Paul of all people showed up at CTWC 2024! ModRetro, in partnership with the Classic Tetris World Championship, hosted a special live-streamed Tetris tournament at the SoCal Gaming Expo. Eight contestants competed on the Chromatic handheld using their new version of Tetris, all striving for the title of ModRetro Tetris Champion. Blue Scuti would go on to face Logan Paul in the semi-finals after Logan beat Chris Tang. Who would go on to face PixelAndy in the finals? Check out the match below!

While not really NES Tetris news, I was ecstatic to see in aGameScout latest video "Professional Tetris Players Explained" that he was kind enough to give this website a shoutout. AlexT has done it again! Not only did he beat his previous insane world record score, but he has also become the 4th player to achieve getting a game crash. As always, aGameScout has put together a great video recapping all of this. Be sure to check it out!
In something absolutely nobody in the classic NES Tetris community could have predicted, top ranked player AlexT, who was not even part of the group of players trying to break the previous world record score of 8.9M to get 10M, achieved an insane score of 16.2M, essentially doubling the previous world record! This new world record has now sparked quite the debate in the classic NES Tetris community not only in regards to Tetris GYM, but also if rebirth is indeed possible on a modified glitch free version of the game.
Something nobody in the NES Tetris community at one point thought would ever be possible has happened. 13 year old Willis "Blue Scuti" Gibson from Oklahoma has finally beaten NES Tetris! For years, players would top out from reaching level 29, famously referred to the kill screen. But then with the new rolling playstyle, top skilled players were able to keep going, eventually reaching the games true kill screen. Congratulations on this history making achievement Blue Scuti!
Yes you read that correctly. CTWC is moving from the Portland Retro Gaming Expo to the Southern California Gaming Expo beginning this June. This decision was made for several reasons, but mainly because most of the current top NES Tetris players are in school come October, therefore it is much more accommodating towards their schedule by having the yearly tournament take place in the summer.
Two of the long-time organizers, Adam Cornelius and Trey Harrison, have announced that they have retired from their roles as CTWC organizers. Vince Clemente will still remain involved as the sole organizer.
If you ever wanted to play classic NES Tetris on modern consoles, Tetris Effect: Connected has now added a "Classic Mode" option. This is a wonderful and faithful recreation of the classic NES Tetris we all know and love. Check out this great video featuring aGameScout & GreenTea on the CTWC Youtube channel explaining all the features of the new mode.
